Favorite Craft Books: Old and New

These are my top three craft books that truly inspire me and that I turn to time and time again:

Cloth Paper Scissors Book by Barbara Delaney, Interweave Press, 2011

Thorough compilation of all things mixed-media: printmaking, journaling, collage, assemblage, stitching, jewelry and more.  It also includes a section on selling your art.  The contributors are all experts in their field: it’s like getting a mini demonstration from the best of the best…all in one book!

Surface Treatment Workshop by McElroy and Wilson, North Light Books, 2011

This is my go-to book for surface applications in painting.  Though you may be familiar with several of the techniques shown, the detailed photos entice you to want to try all 45 of them!  Explanation of materials used and instructions are easy to follow and understand.

Found Art Mosaics by Susan Germond, Sterling Publishing Co., Inc., 2007

When I’m not working in mixed-media, I like to dabble in mosaics.  This medium demands a lot of time and patience…the key to enjoying the process and making the effort worthwhile is seeking out the fun factor of mosaic art!  This was the first book I found that used bright-colored tile and obscure objects; incorporating them on to surfaces and objects I had never thought of before.  Every project is so colorful, whimsical and fun, you can’t help but be inspired.  What are some of your favorite art and craft books?  Let’s discuss!
